The controlled object movements are not necessarily an exact mirror of the player - it only interprets the inputs, so if the controlled object runs into obstacles, the paths of the player and the controlled object could diverge. Vehicles do not need to have a driver to be remotely controlled, but if they do have one, the controlled object should be the vehicle, and not the driver. It is possible to control multiple objects simultaneously.
